Major Gifts – Prospect Identification

Taking advantage of today’s research tools to identify your most likely major gift prospects?

According to a May 18 article from Smart Money magazine, Are Charity Fundraisers Spying on You?, “Elizabeth Crabtree, director of prospect development at Brown University, says six out of 10 donors who made a major gift ($100,000 or more) in its current campaign were initially identified using predictive analytics and data mining.”

By the way, to hone your research skills, make plans to attend APRA’s (Association of Prospect Researchers for Advancement) 23rd Annual International Conference scheduled for July 21-24 (Anaheim, CA). To register or for more information, visit their website.

Website Savvy

It’s absolutely amazing how difficult some nonprofit organizations make it to find information about GIVING on their websites. And once you’re able to “uncover” it, try finding contact information – that’s a whole new challenge! Whether you call it Giving or Support or Get Involved or whatever… make it simple as pie for website visitors to find out giving and gift opportunities on your website. Include contact information for staff and, most importantly, visibly list your organization’s name, address, city, state, zip and phone and fax numbers.

Grants for Volunteerism

The Cities of Service Leadership Grants, just announced for 10 cities across the country, are being funded jointly by the Rockefeller Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
